As I recounted a few weeks ago in A Latina identity crises resolved, finding–or I guess rediscovering may be more correct–my Latina identity has not been easy. It’s taken a lot of soul searching, reading, a TON of writing, and a journey back to the home of my youth in Puerto Rico. Do I have it completely resolved? Maybe.

I know I have a better understanding of who I am and how my culture plays a role in who I am daily. Will it ever be completely resolved? I doubt it. And it’s not because I’m Latina. It’s because I’m human and just like everyone in this world, I’m trying to find my way daily.

In trying to find my way, I’ve made a lot of changes in my life during the last few months, some were difficult, some were not. But the process has helped me to come into my own and find my passion. As part of that, LatinaSmart has honored me as one of their featured Latinas during Hispanic Heritage Month. Why me? Who knows. I’d like to think I contribute positively to the world around me. At least I strive to, and if I can be an example to just one young lady who’s struggling to find her place in the world, then I will consider myself a success. In the meantime, I’ll keep on trying to change the world!
