A few weeks ago I attended a lecture given by someone that is a Facebook friend and that I’ve also met in person. I got there a little early, and sat in the room full of people. He entered and made his away around greeting people.
Though I can recognize him at seeing him, I didn’t think he’d recognize me, so I was surprised when he smiled in my direction. I smiled back and waved, only to get a slightly confused smile in response. He had been smiling past me, at someone else.
Upon realizing my error, I felt a little like this:
