Performance Art
I’ve seen some performance art. Not a lot, but some, and I finally have to confess that I don’t get it. After attending the Outside In Exhibition on Friday at the National Museum of Mexican Arts (I highly recommend it), my friends and I headed to the Pilsen Art Walk for the Chicago Art District’s, 2nd Friday. One of the exhibits we saw was a performance piece. I tried to look serious and pensive, as if I was considering the piece as a representation of society’s… okay, yeah, fuck it. I had no clue.  My friends and I walked out after a few minutes, and I confessed that I had no clue and kudos to people who do.

Silence is golden and True Friends aren’t always nice- A 2fer
I’ve had a situation that’s been going on for a few months. A person who initially made me think we’d be great friends, but in fact has proven quite the opposite time and time again. This week, due to a great friend who, much like me, doesn’t make the things she says pretty so as to make me feel better, reminded me that not everyone is worthy of the breath it takes to repeatedly say, “You’re a shitty friend.” Especially someone who so obviously doesn’t have any desire to do or be better.  Truly made the words of Kahlil Gibran’s about friendship from The Prophet come to life.

“For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in th sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.”

Life should come in 3s
There’s a cute little show called Camp—not sure the network since I watch on Hulu—that’s not dumb, but not smart. Perfect for relaxing with a few laughs. In the last episode I caught, one of the characters talked about making sure to do or to experience 3 awesome things in each day. Well, I’m probably making part of this up since I wasn’t paying close attention, but I do know it’s three awesome things. So I’m making it a goal to make 3 awesome things happen as often as I can. How hard can it be? Womp Womp

Questions often come with answers
Maybe your first thought upon reading that sentence was, “Duh!” but think about it, do you always get the answers you seek? Probably not. Sometimes we’re left confused and clueless and drawing our own (mostly negative) conclusion. The thing about question is that when we ask them we have to be prepared for that and even more important than no answers—and this is the lesson I had to relearn—the answers we do get may not be what we want to hear. This is especially true if you had years upon years to draw your own conclusion and believe it to be the truth. So when you decided to ask someone questions, be sure you’re ready for silence and their version of the truth.
