I finished reading Yes Man by Danny Wallace over the weekend. There’s also a movie out, which I also saw, but I prefer the book much more.
Danny’s concept was to say Yes to EVERYTHING and after reading the book it got me thinking; there are times in my life when I’m just like he was. Saying no, making excuses and basically just existing and not really living. I decided to try a more moderate version of his experiment for the next few months. I am going to say yes to almost everything. Everything that makes sense (some of his yes should’ve been nos).
I announced this via Facebook and had some great jokes from a few friends. I am now committed to attending some meeting for Justin, doing Marilu’s laundry and reading some fantasy book based on Jose’s recommendation (I hate fantasy/sci-fi anything).
A few hours after committing to say Yes Claudia text me to ask if I’d be up for a drink at Park 52, a new place near our house. As I began to text her my usual “no, I’m tired, blah blah blah” I remembered that I had to say Yes. I did, we went and it was nice. It was a beautiful place that I can now talk about, I had a nice martini with some very yummy spinach dip.
I didn’t get many opportunities for yes vs. no’s today…maybe tomorrow. I will blog about my Yes experience for all to read.
I am going to have to go buy this book, it sounds really good. I am making an effort to do more of the things that I want to do, rather than finding reason not to do them. I remember watching an Oprah show years ago and she was talking about this very thing. I liked that she said instead of making excuses ask your self, why not? So I am trying to live by the why not mentality. We will see how that works out. I am looking forward to reading about your upcoming Yes adventures.
